Chris’ Notes: The first verse to me has an interesting contrast of optimistic lyrics set against a monolithic, heavy brooding guitar riff (in a drop B tuning). It’s working title was ‘Bionic Self’ as coined by Rafa who upon us jamming on the riff, challenged me to consider the idea of technology moving exponentially faster than humanity can keep up with. I went for that idea in the second verse with how our insatiable appetite for advancement can be at the spoils of it’s success. It seems we chase a kind of utopia often down a path that can have a malevolent outcome. I found myself drawing inspiration from Ecclesiastes; several U2 songs; Sting’s ‘Driven To Tears’ & ‘History Will TeachUs Nothing’ as well as Rafa’s own ‘Magnetico’ song ‘Indigenous’. Rafa’s arranging skills brought this one to whole new level; Johnny’s powerful vocals and Randy’s drum work makes it ROCK... harder!
